Transport - Zambezi Airlines Expands its Routes

THE Tourism Council of Zambia and Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) have welcomed Zambezi Airlines regional flights but have called for an increase in domestic flights.

Zambezi Airlines will start operating regional flights from May 12, 2009.

TCZ chairperson Mark O’Donnell said the introduction of new routes would boost tourism. “ We are delighted that the airline would soon be introducing new routes but we want more local routes going to Luangwa National Park, Mfuwe and other tourist destinations,’’ he said. He further urged Government to continue supporting the growth of the airline industry in the country.

And in a separate interview, ZACCI chief executive officer Justin Chisulo said the introduction of regional flights was a positive move. He said ZACCI is supportive of local enterprises that serve the regional market.

“We welcome Zambezi Airlines and we ask our members to support it,” he said.

Zambezi Airlines states in its time-table that the company will have international flights to Johannesburg and Dar es Salaam. According to the time-table, the airline will mainly use a Boeing 737/j32 to service the flights.

The airline would fly from Dar es Salaam to Johannesburg via Lusaka on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while from Livingstone to Johannesburg, it would fly from Monday, Friday and Sundays.

Domestic flights will have an EMB aircraft that will fly daily from Kitwe to Lusaka. The plane will fly from Livingstone to Lusaka six days a week. Other routes to be serviced will include Mfuwe and Ndola.
