40 SMEs Confirm Participation in BEE

THE Zambia Chamber of Small and Medium Business Association (ZCSMBA) says 40 small and medium scale enterprises have confirmed participation at next week’s annual business enterprise exhibition (BEE).

Executive secretary, Max Sichula described the response as overwhelming, saying he was optimistic that by next week more companies including corporate firms will have registered for the event to be held in Lusaka.

The sixth exhibition is set for May 15th and 16th at the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) village in the agricultural and commercial show grounds.

Last week, Mr Sichula said preparations of the event were on schedule with most companies such as British American Tobacco (BAT), Zambia Development Agency and National Credit and Savings Bank having confirmed sponsorship of the event.

He urged financial institutions, business association members, non-members, corporate members and corporate non-members to take advantage of the event if they are to showcase their products.

This year’s event is under the theme ‘Creating Wealth and Employment through Innovation’ and will be held in Lusaka because the Lusaka District Business Association put in the strongest bid.

Mr Sichula said most SMEs have been marginalised at national events such as the Trade Fair in Ndola and the Agricultural and Commercial Show in Lusaka, hence the holding of the show.

He said a lot of attention has been given to the preparation so that SMEs can stand out.

And ZCSMBA will soon engage in talks with the Southern African Development Community and Comesa on the possibility of making the BEE event a regional one.

Mr Sichula said the association is keen on having the event annually.
