Airports - Ndola Airport Gets K1 Billion Facelift

THE National Airports Corporation Limited (NACL) has embarked on a K1 billion rehabilitation programme of the Ndola International Airport to bring the infrastructure to international standards.

Ndola International Airport manager Vivian Sikanyeela said in an interview yesterday that NACL had already started rehabilitation and extension of the car park at a cost of about K700 million.

Mr Sikanyeela said the programme included the rehabilitation of the concourse (check-in-area) and the ablution blocks at a cost of K300 million.

"We've so far finished the rehabilitation of the toilets and the concourse. We've done the tailing of the concourse and the works have been satisfactory. The rehabilitation of the car park is still going on," he said.

He said the car park rehabilitation was being undertaken by Joe Earthworks of Ndola and would last six weeks.

A check yesterday found that the works at the car park were going on while a provisional parking area had been created for the six weeks the rehabilitation programme was going on.

Mr Sikanyeela said that the contractor, Joe Earthworks, was in fact well ahead of schedule and that the car park would be reopened before the six weeks elapses.

"The contractor is well ahead of schedule. Therefore we expect the contractor to complete the exercise before the scheduled period of six weeks," he said.

He said the NACL was committed to offering quality service to passengers and other customers, the reason why the organisation had embarked on various programmes including the rehabilitation of infrastructure.
